In Lane County, August is a hot and dry month, and wildfires can threaten properties and homes. Our North Eugene and Northwest Lane County teams witness firsthand the difference have defensible space cleared around a house can make.

Residents must be proactive and do everything possible to minimize the potential for wildfires. Here are some tips from the Lane County Oregon website for creating a defensible space around your home:

Defensible space practices include:

  • Increasing the moisture content of vegetation

  • Altering the arrangement of plants

  • Trim branches that overhang the home, porch, and deck
  • Prune branches of large trees up to 6 to 10 feet from the ground
